Indians derail the Express 6-5

It was a beautiful night for.....football in Elko as the Indians made the road trip to racing country and came away with the 6-5 victory by overcoming some shoddy defense.

The local 9 grabbed a 3 zip lead in the top of the 3rd when Aaron Olson drove a moon shot through the strong wind and over the left field fence. The lead stood until the bottom of the 5th when the Indians defense fumbled the ball a bit and gift wrapped 4 runs for the Express. Shakopee came right back to knot this one up on a wild pitch in the 6th but left the sacks loaded keeping the score at 4-4.

After Elko plated the go ahead run in the bottom of the 7th, the boys in blue answered right back with two of their own in the top of the 8th and held on for the victory. The Indians runs scored on a Matt Conrad fielder's choice which scored Chase Hentges who had singled to lead off the inning. Then Brandon Olson drove home Brannon Weigel with a ground ball for the game winner. Weigel had previously singled and both he and Hentges were bunted to 2nd and 3rd by Alex Bade setting the stage for the come from behind victory.

Nate Brown went 6 innings on the bump getting tagged with the 4 unearned runs as he pitched very well. Lefty Andy Gibart came off the disabled list to snag the victory in an inning of relief while flame throwing righthander Chase Hentges put the finishing touches on this one with 2 scoreless innings while geting his 2nd save of the season.

The Indians get a week off for the 4th of July before returning to action next Tuesday, July 8th at The Joe for a 7:30 PM tilt with the Chanhassen Redbirds. See you there!
