Shakopee Indians vs Coon Rapids Redbirds

Tuesday July 29, 2014 7:30PM

Shakopee welcomed the Redbirds from Coon Rapids in an exhibition game sandwiched between two important section games on either side of this contest.  Would the Indians be in for a "let down" game or would the bats continue to carry the Tribe to another victory?

The locals sent Aaron Olson out to the mound.  Fresh off a youtube course on throwing knuckle balls, Ole did well the first couple innings scattering a couple hits.  In the 3rd, with Shakopee leading 2-0, the Redbirds opened the floodgates to the tune of 4 unearned runs to take a 2 run lead.  Those were the only runs Olson would allow while pitching 5 innings and allowing 11 hits.

The Indian offense was efficient to start the game.  In the first, Brandon Olson doubled and scored on a single by Zak Hoffman.  In the 2nd, Troy Wasiloski doubled and scored on a Zack Bohar single.  In the 5th, Shakopee tied the game at four when John Hellkamp and Kyle Ryan scored.

The lead didn't last long, however.  Pat Lenton came in relief and had a slight misstep in his first inning of work.  Coon Rapids tagged Lenton for four runs in the 6th.  But he would settle down after that.

Down 5 in the bottom of the 8th, the Indian offense went back to work.  Four hits and a walk yielded 3 runs in the 8th.  Three consecutive hits in the 9th brought in 2 runs in the 9th to tie the game at 9.  Finally in the 10th, Alex Bade, after being the defensive hero in the top of the 10th, drew a walk.  After a wild pitch moved Bade to 2nd, Zak Hoffman singled through the left side of the infield to score Bade and win the game.
