Indians take down the Jays 6-0 and grab 2nd seed in Section 3b playoffs.
Needing a victory over the Prior Lake Jays and a Chaska victory over Victoria to secure the top seed in the playoffs the Indians went out and took care of business. Unfortunately, the Vics defeated Chaska 10-3 earning them the top seed in the Section 3b playoffs.
Shakopee scored early in this one as Kyle Ryan hit a leadoff double, moved to 3rd on a wild pitch and scored on a Brandon Olson groundball. Mark Dolenc followed with a solo bomb to left and it was 2-0 after a half inning. The Indians tacked on a single run in the 3rd when Chase Hentges hit a SAC fly scoring Zak Hoffman. In the 4th the boys in blue put 3 more on the board with 2 scoring on a Brandon Olson single then BO scoring on a wild pitch giving Shako the 6-0 lead.
The 6 runs were more than enough for starting pitcher Sheldon Miks, who went 7 shutout innings to get the pitching victory. Pat Lenton tossed the final 2 frames to preserve the shutout. Shakopee's defense was flawless in the field and twisted 3 double plays to help the boys on the bump.
The Indians now start a best of 5 series against their cross river rivals, the Chaska Cubs on Friday. The first team to 3 wins gets a birth in the state tournament. Games are set for Friday the 8th, Sunday the 10th, Tuesday the 12th, Thursday the 14th and Friday the 15th. All 5 games will be played at Joe Schleper stadium due to Chaska's field being unplayable.
