WP: #10 Chris Rupert, LP: #9 Ryan Seifert, SP: #1 Chase Hentges
Game 1 of best of 5 series
Indians knock off Cubs 3-1 to take the 1-0 series lead.
The Shakopee Indians managed just enough runs on their 5 hits to grab the game 1 victory. Chris Rupert threw 8 innings allowing a single unearned run as he pitched the home team to victory. Chase Hentges pitched a 1, 2, 3 9th earning another clutch save.
The Shakopee hitters managed just 5 hits but were able to plate 3 runs for the night. Chase Hentges led off the 3rd with a triple and scored on a groundout by Zach Bohar giving the Indians the 1-0 lead. Mark Dolenc doubled with one out in the 6th and stole third base before Zak Hoffman lined an RBI base hit giving the good guys a 2-0 lead. Zach Bohar hit a sole homerun in the 7th driving in the third and final run of the night. Dolenc had 2 doubles to pace the offense, and Bohar knocked in 2 runs.
The Cubs scored their only run in the top of the 8th when the Indians defense couldn't handle a 2 out ground ball, but Rupert managed to get the third out before anymore damage was done setting the stage for Hentges' 9th inning save.
On a side note, tonight's game was played in just under 2 hours as both pitchers were humping it all night long.
Game 2 will happen on Sunday at The Joe starting at 6 PM. The Cubs will be the home team on the scoreboard.....if it works!
See you there for some more great playoff baseball.
