Shakopee Indians vs Chaska Cubs

Game 2 of best of 5 series

Sunday August 10, 2014 6:00PM

The Indians and Cubs met Sunday evening for game 2 of the best-of-5 series with the Indians leading the series 1-0.  As the Indians try to take a healthy lead in the series, Andy Gibart was sent to the mound while the Cubbies countered with hard-throwing Austin Lubinsky.

The game started off with the pitchers in control through five innings.  The Indians were able to strike first scratching across a run in the 3rd and 5th innings.  Both runs scored via Kyle Ryan singles.

In the 6th, the Indians hitters finally got some balls to find some holes and opened up a 6-0 lead.  In all the Indians sent to the plate 9 batters who tallied 6 hits and a walk.  While the score was 6-0, some base running blunders by the Indians left still a few more runs on the field.

Meanwhile Gibart was in control until the bottom half of the 6th when the middle of the Chaska order knocked in 2 runs to get back in the game.  Gibart had just allowed 2 hits through the first 5 innings.

The Indian hitters kept the pedal to the floor scoring again in the 7th and twice in the 8th to take a 9-2 lead.

Gibby would tire in the 8th before giving way to Chase Hentges who worked out of an inherited bases loaded situation by getting a fly out to end the inning.  Then tossed a "Snapper-mow-em-down" inning in the 9th to close the door on game 2.

The Indians had a solid, balanced effort from everyone in the lineup tonight.  Five players had multi-hit games.  Kyle Ryan, Zak Hoffman, and Zach Bohar each drove in two runs a piece.
