Friday night was the day that nobody thought would get here and the scenario that neither team hoped would happen. Game 5 in the 5 game series between Shakopee and Jordan marked the 8th (correct...8th) time the two teams would face each other in the last 20 days. Needless to say this game was the most important of the previous seven as the winner of this one would live to see another day...the loser starts golf season.

The Indians started off on a good note once again by opening the scoring in the bottom of the first inning. Joey Heller was the games first base runner getting on with a walk. He would scamper home and head for the oxygen tank on a double by Troy Wasiloski.

That would be the extent of the scoring for the next 6 innings as both pitchers dug in. Dane Secott took the mound for the Tribe after a stint on the disabled list and was spectacular. Secott went 8 innings yielding no runs on just 4 hits. Not a single Brewer would advance to third base on Secott's watch.

With Secott holding the Brewer bats in check, it was only a matter of time before the Indian offense would come alive. The Indians couldn't capitalize in the 4th inning leaving the bases loaded. However, in the 7th, the story would have a different ending. The Indians scored 5 times to take a commanding 6-0 lead. In the inning Joey Heller knocked Nate Brown in with a double. Aaron Olson and Troy Wasiloski walked to load the bases for Chris Baso. Baso finally adjusted to the Baso shift and knocked a single to left scoring Heller and Olson. Wasiloski would score on a wild pitch. Baso would score on an error and the Indians finally had a comfortable lead for the first time in a long time.

Kyle Green pitched the 9th and tried to make the game close. But the Shakopee defense was up to the task and turned in some nifty plays to end the game.

With the win, Shakopee advances to the super sectional round starting next Friday and the confusion will begin. But, first the Indians travel to Chaska on Sunday for a seeding game to determine the first and second seed from the section.

We hope to see you follow the local nine as their quest to defend the title continues. Stay tuned to this website for late breaking news about game time, location, and of course scores.
