Playoff Game 6: Sunday, August 7 The Indians traveled to Chaska for a game vs someone not wearing green and gold or from Jordan. The Section 3 seeding game paired Shakopee and Jordan....errrr...Chaska (just used to writing Jordan after 8 games in the last 20 days). Though both teams qualified for the Super Section tournament, the first seed from the section, #3 overall in the state, and the home team on the scoreboard remained at stake. Though no drafting of pitchers and catchers in 2011 is allowed, a mock draft was to be held anyway after the game...for old times sake. The Indians struck first in the fourth inning. They recorded their first hit of the game and their first run of the game in the fourth inning. Three runs would cross the plate on three hits. The big blow coming off the bat of Aaron Olson who doubled home Brandon Olson (singled) and Joey Heller (HP). Chris Baso would plate AO two batters later to give Shakopee a 3-0 lead. In the 5th, Kyle Hoover doubled and Curt Hartfiel drove him in for 4-0 lead. Chris Rupert went back to work on the mound after a bountiful four days rest and was masterful through four innings. Rupert allowed 3 straight singles in the 5th. But, defensively throwing to wrong bases and defenders running the wrong way made the inning longer than it should. Chaska would cut into Shakopee's lead 4-3. The score remained 4-3 until the ninth. In the top half, Shakopee knocked out singles by Troy Wasiloski, Andrew Zellmann, Zack Bohar, and Dan Harris but only added one insurance run to make it 5-3. In the 9th, Shakopee couldn't get anyone out. Chaska rallied for 3 runs to win the game 6-5. With the loss, all the reward for the Indians winning state twice in a row goes to Chaska who gains the #3 seed. Shakopee sits with the #13 seed (drawn out of a hat) but has "first-ups" every game of the super section tournament. Shakopee plays Sauk Rapids in the first round of Super Sections on Friday at Cold Spring. Blaine and Savage join them in the 4-team double-elimination tournament next weekend. Come out to Cold Spring to watch your favorite local nine continue their quest for another state tournament berth. Stay tuned to the website for game time updates and more information.
